As far as notifying the officer, especially in Ohio..
I have made it a habit to notify them no matter what. It seems to be the best practice. I would hate to lean over and uncover a concealed weapon in front of an unsuspecting officer. Not sure if this is a good habit, or not. I just don't feel like being shot. My run in's with LEO is slim to none, so I am not highly experienced with this.
Ohio has a duty to inform immediately upon first official contact.
Generally speaking, it is best to keep the gun out of the conversation unless required upon contact or required when asked.
The experience and temperament of officers can vary greatly, and mentioning the gun when not required may cause unnecessary tension or even dangerous handling.
Best to know the law and follow it, and keep your mouth shut when legal to do so.
