    State Police: One person shot in Bedford Co. as activists travel cross-country to D.C.

    State police held another press conference around 3:30 p.m. saying no charges have been filed against local residents or anyone in the activist group, but the investigation is still ongoing.

    They say gun shots were exchanged between the two groups but did not specify who fired those shots.

    According to state police, troopers were contacted by a property owner at 11:18 p.m. about a group of people who were in a private business parking lot.

    Troopers say the location was along the 800 block of Lincoln Highway in Juniata Township.

    Troopers say they later found out the group of people were about 30 activists who were marching from Milwaukee to Washington D.C.

    Just before midnight, troopers say property owners confronted the group of activists.

    They say the confrontation escalated leading to an exchange of gunfire.

    “I don’t have any details, but they were asked to leave, and they didn’t leave I don’t have anything further,” said Captain Jamie Clark.

    During the press conference, Bedford County District Attorney Lesley Childers-Potts and state police would not confirm if the residents or the activist fired first.

    Officials will also not specify if both groups fired shots at one another.

    One person in the activist group was injured by birdshot from a shotgun and has since been treated and released from Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, according to state troopers.

    It is still unclear what caused this confrontation to escalate.

    “The investigation consists of a lot of pieces of evidence that needs to be sent away and analyzed, a lot of statements from eyewitnesses and both parties," explained Lt. William Slaton with PSP Heritage Affairs. "We can't with a level of certainty give you any information that we need to actually sit back and process.”

    Officials continue to emphasize this investigation is still in the early stages and will continue to develop as they learn more.

    They say no charges have been filed and no one is in custody or being held for questions at this time.

    State Police provided a brief update Tuesday morning just before noon.

    Troopers say early information indicates there was an incident between the group of activists and two area residents.

    Troopers say gunfire was exchanged between an activist and a resident and one of the activists was struck.

    State police say the residents involved are being questioned.

    The Pennsylvania State Police Heritage Affairs Section is helping with the investigation.

    State police are no longer saying an argument happened before the gunfire happened.

    They say another press conference is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

    State Police in Bedford confirm an incident between a group of people and a resident on Rt. 30 in Schellsburg lead to gunfire.

    They said two people are being questioned at their barracks. Police said it happened late Monday night, just before midnight. They said it happened on the 800 block of Lincoln Hwy. in Juniata Twp., Bedford County.

    Members of the group captured the moment shots rang out while on Facebook Live.

    ORIGINAL: The leader of a group of protesters going from Milwaukee to Washington D.C. said their group was shot at and one person wounded by someone in Bedford County.

    Frank Nitty, a man who identifies himself as the group’s leader, spoke to 6 News outside Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown. He said the wounded person was brought to the hospital.

    Nitty said the shooting happened around midnight Tuesday. He was doing a live on social media at the time of the shooting. The video he posted on Twitter shows the group standing around its cars along a road in the dark. Then several noises that sound like gunshots can be heard as the group scrambles to get in its cars and leave.

    Nitty could only describe the scene of the shooting as being along Lincoln Highway near Schellsburg in Bedford County.

    Bedford State Police would not take 6 News calls. Dispatch could not confirm any information. Officers with the State Police were at the Conemaugh parking lot talking to the group and gathering evidence.

    Nitty said the group organized the march across the country in response to the death of George Floyd. He said the group had nearly 50 marchers. He said the injuries to the wounded marcher appears minor.
