    Default Make Chicago 51st State.

    https://www.effinghamdailynews.com/n...2869a51e1.html

A Republican Illinois State legislator is proposing to sever Chicago from the State of Illinois and make it become the 51st State. The chances of it happening are remote, but the idea is one of the few that I have seen that politically responds to the developing nationwide reality that is resulting in the destruction of our right to keep and bear arms. The Chicago plan would give new representation to Chicago (all Democrat) but would be balanced by the Statewide shift that would be decidedly red. Democrats in CA cleverly devised a plan to divide CA into three states with each new state being controlled by one major urban center guaranteeing that the Democrats would pick up more Senate and House seats in three Democrat controlled fiefdoms. Some lefty billionaire funded the effort but then gave it up. The Chicago plan, theoretically would keep things balances.

Leftists in Chicago dictate Statewide politics in Illinois. Leftists in Seattle and Olympia dictate politics in Washington State. Leftists in Portland and Eugene dictate politics in Oregon. NYC dictates NY. Suburban NYC cities in NJ dictate to NJ, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh dictate to everyone else in PA. SF, LA and Sacramento dictate to California. Baltimore runs MD. Boston runs MA. Majorities are potent, which is why our republic was designed to prevent majority rule from eviscerating rights guaranteed to everyone. That is what we are losing.

As the drive continues to eliminate the Electoral College, the same result is going to be enshrined nationally. Urban leftists run roughshod over everyones' Constitutional rights.

    Should Pennsylvania secede from Philadelphia?

I have actually devised a plan to trade Philadelphia county for Warren County (NJ). I was hoping to include Hunterdon county in the plan too, but I am pretty sure that the New Jersey government would shut down without the Hunterdon $$. Don't worry, Warren county is one of the few red counties in New Jersey and I also have a name change as part of the plan. ;-)

On a serious note, we are fortunate that the population of Philadelphia is shrinking, but those suburbs are pretty blue, so the battle is far from over.

Correct me if I'm wrong (do I really need to say that here?), but don't states (or their citizens, I suppose) have to vote to follow the Constitution to *become* a state? It's kind of a Catch 22 - most of the people who would vote for Chicago to be its own state would likely vote against 2A.

    Just rambling first thoughts...

Either way, all of us are going to have to pay big $$$$ via the federal government to bail out their bankrupt pension and monstrous debts in the next few years. Mark my words...

You will get no argument from me. Most cities and States and school systems have squandered a window of economic opportunity to try to change their pension laws and practices to prevent the failure. Chicago and Illinois did not. I am not sure about PA. California is a basket case of well hidden rot. Their strong economy has staved off failure and hidden the dangers. The never ending drive to full on socialism there is going to expose it all within 10 or 15 years when they have made doing any kind of business there untenable. Chicago has a good chance of becoming the next Detroit. Bondholders will take the worst of it, they always do. Basically, the politicians and Federal Bankruptcy judges look at municipal bondholders as if they were equity holders and the only classes that will never pay are the feckless politicians that created the nightmare and the taxpayers who elected them.

Not necessarily. The citizens of New Chicago would vote anti-2a as always in their new state and would probably vote to become their own state. The rest of Illinois would vote pro-2A and would be happy to vote New Chicago into existence. What I liked is that I saw a politician at least thinking of how to restore the urban/leftist vs. everyone else imbalance, which is resulting in the classic "tyranny of the majority". A tyranny that the Democrats are seeking to enshrine with every political act they take.

While people move out every year, more people are born in the city than the amount who move out. Over the past 10 years, Philadelphia’s population has been growing ever so slowly.

So Chicago becomes the 51st state, then what happens? They get 2 new liberal Senators and 1 new liberal Congress Critter. Now the rural conservatives in Illinois have their local problem solved, but now the rest of the nation has the political problem. No, this is not the answer.
