I cannot even think of a reason to justify this! This officer should have received departmental discipline at the very least.

I wonder if DA Weintraub would excuse a private citizen’s conduct from criminal prosecution, because of their “honest but mistaken” beliefs, when a firearm is involved?

If he was carrying a 1911, this would never have happened. Steel doesn't feel like a taser.

In any kind of functional police dept., Officer bologna patch would have been snatched up pretty quickly and told to get with the program and move his taser.
He should be subject to discipline just the same as if he had not retired.

No Hope Pd. is rather known for fuckery of one type or another.
They probably learned it from their friends across the river in Lambertville.

I just got into work and was talking with the guy I relieve. I said, what's going to happen the next time "Bob" is showing his new gun to his friend "Joe" and forgets to unload it?? Bob puts a round in Joe, but it was an honest mistake!!! He didn't have the mental culpability required to be charged with anything. Bob didn't want to shoot Joe. Guarantee the DA would charge Bob with a crime!

And the cop retired just before the announcement ...imagine that... Gets full pension and benefits. He might have been a great officer to the dept and the community but bad mistake on his end.

If that cop always wore his Taser on his gun side and the dept knew about it, and if there was a policy against it..... I see a civil negligence lawsuit.
