Default Scope Mounting-Left Or Right Knob

As I always say, don't laugh. When mounting a set of scope rings on a rail, does the "tightening knob" go on the right or left? I usually have it on the right but not sure why I do it that way.

I am sure the pros here have an answer. ;-)

I have always mounted the rings with the knobs on the left. Unless you have left handed firearm, then I would do it with the knobs on the right.

I'm doing it on a Ruger 10/22. Just wasn't sure if there was some sort of protocol.

It really doesn't matter which side for most ring sets. Most folks put them on the left side of gun though.

However, there are some mount-specific ring sets in existence.

If you ever hone your ring sets true, then you will want to keep the knobs on same side.

On the right..ocd says the left side is the smooth side and I can look at them and see if they loosened.

Opposite of the action, one less thing to catch your hand on when running a bolt or action.

Remember to loctite and torque correctly!

I'll go with left. I have the blue loctite. So, I have to put the rail on the receiver, loctite those screws. Then, the rings on the rail. Do I loctite just the screws that attach to the rail or also the screws that attach the scope to the rings? I have a torque screwdriver so I can set torque but would appreciate a heads up on proper torques for all. Thanks!
