I had occasion to look into this, and I can see at least 2 possible ways for a pawn shop to legally pawn guns; not sure how our typically anti-gun courts would view it, but they're in the statute you cited.

How would I know if you would or should be guilt free for fucking up their gun?

What about a Bar. Reminds me back in the day a bar on Rt. 724 heading towards Monocacy called Mayberrys. 1st floor little 2x4 bar, owner had table with yard sale stuff. One day a shotgun was on it. My brother says does it work, bartender reaches under bar puts a shell up. My brother walks out back door, boom, comes back in, I'll take it. $25 if I remember. Ah the good days.

I stopped there on vacation! Awesome little shop. Bought some 2A shirts, toy revolvers for the kids and fireworks, but did browse the real guns too.

I'm not "sure" enough to actually attempt to lay out the legal argument, but my feeling is that it would require a very specific set of circumstances to align, and not be something that could be done at will by any given person.

    You know, like a "loophole".
