Then squeeze it a little harder to make sure the primer is flush with the case (but not caved in)

You might want to switch primers. For autoloading rifles with floating firing pins I use the CCI-41 primers. They have a thicker cup.

And I would just load the commercial cases without crimps for now.
Excuse the black hand, hazard of being a wrench. Best pic I could get given the focal length of this lense. Both from same rifle, same time. I think I will weed out 5.56 for now until I get a reamer/swage & work on a lighter load starting from 21gr

Ummmm.....I may have spotted something. OP listed H4895 powder. H being Hodgdon's 4895. The posted photo of the Hornady manual lists IMR 4895.

Question...are the slight black streaks in the photos the blow-by you mentioned?

There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

I noted that as well, and I don't know if they are different

Believe one the IMR is less sensitive to temps in general. Not 100% on that though

Hard to see in the pic, the primer on the left is just barely popped, real slight hole in the middle of it, I didn't notice any streaks, might be chatter from the cutter I was using, kinda rough

I wasn't going by that manual. I have the 2019 "annual" manual, Hodgdons website & another manual that all list the same charge BUT as I've said before, I believe it's a bullet mix up since the sources I have don't have my bullet listed. I'm going to pick up another manual next payday and go from there

Maybe I missed it, but have you fired factory ammo in that rifle ? If so did the primers look normal ?

Also if your piercing primers that hot jet of gas will erode your firing pin pretty quick, not to mention bits of prime getting into the BCG.

OP it looks like I'm not too far away. If you are willing to make the drive, I have a "Pro Chrono Pal" that needs a good home. It's lightly used & yours for the price of gas it will cost you for the trip. I could meet you at the Walmart in Tunkhannock.

The two powders are different enough that loads cannot be the same in a given application. Google difference between H4895 and IMR4895? to find plenty of discussion and explanations. Do not treat them as equals!!! Please!

Factory rounds look normal as can be, I'm starting to believe it's because of the 5.56 casings

Only 2 or 3 rounds had pierced primers. I'll do a full teardown on the BCG tomorrow hopefully
