Is it Necessary to Resize New Rifle or Pistol Brass?
Hello,
Lets say I just ordered 200 rounds of Norma or Remington brass for my 7mm. Does the brass need to be resized prior to reloading?
How about new 357 pistol brass?
Thanks!!!

Re: Is it Necessary to Resize New Rifle or Pistol Brass?
I do it. I have found cases that were new that the mouth was out of round. rough handleing I suspect. For rifle stuff I also trim and chamfer. I trim to ensure the mouth is square and chamfer just to be sure there isn't any burrs . I will admit I do tend to be a bit anal retentive about my rifle brass. I haven't bought pistol brass in so long. The only pistol brass i load is .45ACP and .38spl. I have never trimmed any of it. 45 brass I just tumble it and toss it in my progressive press.

Yeah, it's usually in spec although the necks seem to be dinged. I'd size it.

I wouldn't load any new brass without first resizing.

Personally, I just trim to square up the case mouth then neck size it to make sure that the case mouth is round. I don't believe its necessary to full-length size it.

Re: Is it Necessary to Resize New Rifle or Pistol Brass?
I lube, size, trim to same length, chamfer, deburr then load for rifles. This may seem excessive for some, but I want accurate ammo and rifle pressures are quite high compared to handguns so I inspect carefully.
For pistols, I check the length and check to see if most mouths are square. I chamfer and deburr just before charging with powder. Once this is done, I usually will load the cases several times without going through the process again. I rarely load higher pressure pistol ammo.

I just make sure the case mouth is round and then chamfer.

Re: Is it Necessary to Resize New Rifle or Pistol Brass?
I generally pull about 10% of the lot randomly and inspect them, check length, pockets and roundness of necks, if that batch checks out OK , Ill load em up but visual each one. If I see a trend of one sort or another in any specified dimension, the whole lot goes through my QC. But as rwilson452 stated earlier, I tend to be a bt on the OCD side of my brass prep and I never load any approaching max load with any caliber. If I need more power I move on to a bigger round

All my rifle brass gets neck sized, and thats it. But, I am also not using range brass and its a bolt gun.
