I have been turning wrenches so long, I have no idea. Probably from watching other people bleed or go to the hospital. Safety meeting topic at least once a week... LOL
The not catching guns thing was taught to me when I was very young learning basic gun safety.

    Pussies.

Well I do let the sharp or really heavy shit fall. I don't even wear steel tipped boots and haven't broken any toes yet. My feet are too wide for the cap, it winds up beween my pinky toe and my ring toe.
    Ring toe? Like a lemur?

    Serious answer:

I grabbed a couple of less-dangerous tools in my youth, and that was enough.

I realized the potential dangers and did a lot of "what if" visualization. I've had screwdrivers drop straight down, but my feet weren't there anymore - I was a foot back in surrender position. It *is* possible to train your brain to the point of creating "muscle memory" without involving the body in the training. Just the thought of dropping a grinder or router with the trigger locked can provide an hellacious amount of incentive to get it right.
