Tonight I went ahead with the 6.5". It should arrive at my local FFL later in the week. Will update.

Re: Thinking 454 cas, specifically Ruger SBH Bisley 4.6"
I had a redhawk in 454. Currently an alaskan, in addition to a Rossi in 454.
Full pressure loads are very hard on the hands and wrists. Buffalo bore loads to less than max due to crimp jump. I buy the >300 grain hard casts which are more comfortable. You can also buy 45lc +p that have ballistics close to 44 mag, or 45lc. Your choice of the 3.
The Buffalo bore loads still kicks like a mule in the lever.

I’ve fired the 6.5”, it was a beast. We were shooting at 50 yards and I think I hit a bullseye

I believe you may be recalling a thread about the 7 shot GP-100 in 357 mag. This Super Blackhawk only has a five shot cylinder and the case heads are also recessed. Not possible for Rims to touch. Plenty of real estate between them.
Also, I've yet to hear a single report of the 460 shooting either 454 or 45 colt accurately.

Re: Thinking 454 cas, specifically Ruger SBH Bisley 4.6"
I got out to the range yesterday evening for a brief session. Shot up two boxes of Hornady Custom #9148. 240 grain XTP. Hot stuff. Listed muzzle velocity puts it at about 2000 ft/lb of energy.
My initial impression is that I'm going to need more practice. The recoil is a definite factor. There was absolutely no pain after 35 rounds. It was just difficult not to anticipate such a disruptive recoil impulse. It hits you so fast, your brain doesn't even have time to process the feedback from your trigger finger before the gun is coming back.
I did alright from ten yards, got a few bullseyes, at 50' I was shooting most in a 10" group, mostly because of some low shots from anticipating recoil. I also had a few that left the dimension. 29 of 35 did stay on the paper.
I'm going to enjoy this revolver, though I may not enjoy the cost to become proficient. I'm already wondering how the 4.625" barreled version would be to shoot. I may have to know.
