Right. It's about the intent. Husband to wife, then daughter to father is legal. But saying this to bypass the FFL transfer for son-in-law/father-in-law isn't necessary legal even though it's the same shit.

By the way, no FFL transfer requirements between two non-prohibited PA residents for rifles/shotguns.

I can't even imagine how many times this happens across the state (and country) every single day.

The OP did not buy that handgun. At least not legally.

I just had a kid I work with tell me that he's getting a Glock "transferred to him soon" from his uncle.
I said, "Oh, I assume you're 20 years old now?"
He said, "No, I'm 18 - he's giving it to me."
I said, "Well, not legally, he isn't."

People just aren't aware of the laws required for transferring handguns.
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

You said "technically", not "technicality", though.

The firearm must be registered with the PA State Police so transfer it at an FFL. It could be confiscated if they find you did not register it with PA Sate Police if you get pulled over and they run the serial numbers and find it is registered to your son in law.

Most people don't surf gun forums all day and are not versed in the finer points of firearm law. They don't spend their coffee break reading 30 year old ATF letters to see if the "sawed-off" shotgun in their trunk will technically send them to prison or not, depending on if the stock is original or not, and what position the moon is in, and whether or not they are within the sacred bounds of some ancient burial ground.

I think that's largely why you see such high non-compliance with all these petty technical firearm laws. Not because of willful disobedience, but purely because most people are not aware of them, and have no time to keep track of all the obscure court opinions and bureaucrat "interpretations". Go ask your local range dweller about 922r and watch their eyes glaze over. Hell, go ask your local cop about it.

922R? That some kinda fancy new .22? LOL

Just have to be sure all your gizmos and gadgets are American made. And that there are less than 10 foreign components on the rifle/shotgun from the "list". At least that's how I understand it.

Jennifer, While I understand that this may happen, my understanding is that there is no legal database or gun registry in pa ? is this not correct?
