Ruger 22/45 Mark III or Walther P22
I want to pick up a new 22 pistol for practice. Any suggestions between the Ruger 22/45 Mark III or Walther P22? Thanks for the input.

I have a 22/45 Mk II, and haven't had any problems with it. I haven't shot the P22, but have no problems recommending the 22/45.

Get the MKIII 22/45. I just picked one up myself and i love it. You'll love it if you like to tinker.
Not even 50 rounds through mine and i did the sling shot mod, removed the mag disconnect, and drilled and tapped the trigger for a set screw to take most of the pre travel out of it.
Next im gonna do a revamp on the sling shot mod, do some polishing on the sear/hammer engagement surfaces. Eventually going to grind off the checkered grips, drill and epoxy in 1911 grip screw bushings, and put 1911 grips on it.
Then its a TacSol Pac-Lite threaded upper. But thats not for some time.

Re: Ruger 22/45 Mark III or Walther P22
Can't Speak for the Ruger other than they make nice guns, I have a Mark I but it has some feeding issues I can't seem to get worked out. Not Bashing Ruger since the Gun was made in 1964, I replaced all the Springs and magazine and Still no Luck, Someday I'll get it worked out.
The P22 on the other hand is Cheap (Zinc Cast Slide) But it is Uber Cool looking and Fun to Shoot and so far has eaten anything I fed it.
If I was in your shoes, I'd go for the P22 or maybe a Ruger Bearcat, Their .22 auto's just don't fit my hand good.

I'd get the Ruger. Both are good but I think the Ruger is going to last much longer.

It depends on what you want to do with the pistol. The P22 has a niche on small, light, cute. It is not as well-made as the Ruger. If you do a bit of polishing on things like trigger bar ears, it will last quite a while. It is fun to shoot. The P22 is difficult to shoot accurately.
The Ruger MKIII 22/45 is much better made and can be shot much more accurately. My preference is the Ruger.
I have a MKII 22/45, MKIII 22/45 and a P22. Enjoy them all, but the P22 is definitely a notch below the Rugers.

Ruger.... It'll last long enough to pass down to your grandkids.

I enjoy my Ruger 22/45 Mark III. It has taken everything thats been fed to it. Little difficult at first to reasemble after cleaning but you'll get used to it.
