Re: Dicks leaving the gun business
Anti's may outnumber us. Stack is counting on it. I can see where a large segment of snowflakes will reward Dick's with more patronage.
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

Re: Dicks leaving the gun business
Dick's has $8.8 billion in revenue? They're that big?
According to the Motley Fool their earnings per share declined 8 percent.
Sales have been suffering from the decision to stop selling assault weapons and electronics last year. Instead, the company has been doubling down on athletic apparel, launching its own private brands, such as CALIA by Carrie Underwood, and rolling out exclusive lineups from product partners.
Those initiatives did little to move the needle though, not quite offsetting losses from guns and electronics nor improving gross profit margins. Earnings went up anyway, but that was due to a lower tax rate because of U.S. corporate tax reform. Now that the effect of lower taxes has been lapped, the picture doesn't look quite as good for the bottom line in the new year.
As to "optimizing assortment," that will probably mean shunning more hunters. After giving assault weapons the ax, the company has been experimenting with the removal of its hunting section in select locations and is pleased with the results from allocating the space to other categories. Thus, another 125 stores will have hunting departments removed in 2019 where hunting is of less interest.
Stack is playing ideologue. We'll see how his investors feel about it.
To me, Dick's ain't worth dick.

Re: Dicks leaving the gun business
Do you see antis paying more for Carrie Underwood garments at Dicks that they can buy on Amazon?
Been a truism for a long time - gun control enthusiasts tend to slack off between "incidents".
This is in part why the Corporate Owned Media likes to wring a tragedy. Focus on a piece of it here and there.
Bloomberg is buying Politicians - Pittsburgh City Council for example - to pass pissant laws. He doesn't get it, this shit angers us, keeps us rolling forward.

Wondered the same thing. They start out with about 8+B annual revenue but running down all the numbers they end up with a net income of about 320M.

Billionaire Johnny Morris Who privately owned Bass Pro purchased Cabelas. Unless he is anti gun then I don’t see where the connection comes from.
The CEO of bass pro was pressured by the same stool samples that got other chain stores to follow suit with Dicks and he didn’t cave.
You Can Still Buy Guns Here.
Don't expect Bass Pro Shops to fall in line behind Dick's and Walmart.

Re: Dicks leaving the gun business
I guess I did not reply to this thread. They aren't leaving the business per se, but this is a big step moving in that direction. I did the math, and I think it is every [1 in 6] or [1 in 7] stores will cease carrying hunting supplies, firearms and the like. Whether my local Dicks is one or not is unclear. It might- because there is fierce competition in the area from other retail outlets (Walmart, Rural King, Dunhams) and local gun shops.
I have talked to a few dozen gun owners regarding this issue and about 80% of them have a negative opinion of Dicks Sporting Goods. Half of them because of the AR-15 fiasco, and half of them because of Dicks sending lobbyists to Washington to tell them we have no right to firearms ownership. I would fall in the latter portion. As long as I don't have to pay for the destruction- I don't care what a vendor does with it's products. The local grocery store could have an orgy with every viscous fluid it sells and go national about it and I would not care that much.
But going AGAINST my rights? un-American. They will not get a penny from me. My opinion seems to be a general consensus- and I am being nice about it.
