You are being woefully and willfully ignorant with your virtue signaling.
I think murder is a little more heinous than rape. How about the sanctity of life?
Had he plugged the guy right away, I'd agree with you, hands down. From the video, I dont get the impression the bad guy was committing anything more than an impulsive crime of opportunity, firing the weapon to try and stop his victim from chasing him after the fact. This isnt to say he shouldn't be charged with anything less than attempted murder, of course.

But I digress - none of us were there, or are in the bad guy's head, so all of our words are nothing but wind. In the end, the victim was sloppy, oblivious, and tempting, and the thief is solely responsible for his own criminal actions. I personally don't believe in ignoring half of the circumstances in a situation just because one party was wrong and the other innocent. Use whatever buzzword you like to describe it, but I prefer to keep my eyes and mind open.

Betcha the victim bought himself a better holster, though.

It is some how common with humans..
Buy a gun for a couple hundred to thousand dollars but buy a $15 holster

Buy a motorcycle for thousands, but spend $50 on a helmet

But a sports car and put the cheapest tires you come across

All cheap decisions that relate directly to human life.. hmmm.. just what is a life worth to most folks.. and yes I have done these exact things before pulling my head out of my behind

My ex used to work in the business office (payroll, etc.) of a string of nursing homes. Given a staff turnover rate above 100% annually, they had a lot of orientation days for new hires. During a break at one of the orientation days, they noticed a longer than normal line waiting for the men's room. Apparently one of the orientees was found in a stall on her knees with a pocket full of $5s - on her first day on the job. It was also her last day.

To be honest, it was a damn sight better money than the $5/$5.25 per hour they were starting the nursing assistants, with a lot less heavy lifting and much less chance of getting $#!% on.

His gun being taken was no more his fault than had the criminal snuck up and yanked his wallet out of his back pocket, and ran off with it.

Oh, wait. In that case, he should have had a trucker wallet chained to him to prevent theft.
    Nevermind. It was his fault.

If the wallet was hanging out of his back pocket, dangling for the whole world to admire, would you not say that having it fully in his pocket might have made him a less tempting target?

I'm still unclear as to who you think is blaming the victim. The thief is the criminal. Since when did "recognizing ways someone could have prevented bad from happening" start being called "victim blaming" just because something bad happened? Isn't anticipating those situations the whole purpose of preventative measures? Pointing out a lack of preventative measures does not shift the blame when there's an issue.

I was pretty harsh about pointing it out, perhaps that made it seem like I was implying it was his fault he got robbed, but really, that comment was more sarcasm than anything. I should have been more clear about it.

I have read the whole thread and I don't believe anyone was saying it's the victims fault. However one person's misfortune can be a learning experience for others. So discussing ways this might have been avoided can be beneficial to everyone who reads this thread.
