Thanks, that looks like a base to start with. One caveat I've heard of is that some powders use less product and a double charged casing could go unnoticed as it wouldn't overflow. How do I know what powders fall into that category?

    FWIW:

Here is a page from my Hornady 10th edition manual for 115gn 9mm

It list's several powders that they worked up using their test gun- S&W model 39 using a 4" barrel.

IMHO for 9mm "Power Pistol" shines and gives me the greatest published velocities. It also does well with 147gn bullets as well. YMMV

I’ve used hp-38 (identical to win 231), Titegroup, AA#5, SR4756, and Power Pistol for 9mm. I’d avoid Titegroup until you have a lot of reloading experience, since it has a narrow range and is easy to double charge. If you load for carbine, Power Pistol will give the highest velocity, as its slower burn rate better exploits longer barrels.

Great info so far, thanks a lot for it all!

Alright, moving right along here...I have these 115 FMJ's that I scored years ago and I'm on station 3 where I set the dept (OAL). I believe I am within range but still a little shallow, shallow is better than too deep but I do have the abilities to get it right to the .xxx if I want to. The question I have at this point is...are all 115 FMJ bullets the same OAL? Or Could I be driving them too deep if I go with the specs on this guide that I have for OAL?

No, not all are the same COAL. For instance take a look at my photo above and you will see Hornady lists some as 1.100 or 1.075

These bullets are .556, is that a standard for 115 gr FMJ?

I hope you meant .356. .355 -.356 should be fine. If I recall jacketed bullets are on the smaller side and lead bullets larger.

Depending on bullet shape OAL can vary slightly.

Nope, they're .555+- and the JHP's that I have are not far from it. My concern would be if they were too long and I pushed them in for the 1.1 OAL that it would cause excess pressure down below but based on being close to the others I should be good to go. Then next question up is where do I find what the crimp diameter should be? I haven't come across that one yet except in the Dillon instruction book.

Sorry, I read that as OD, not length. Continue...

Yeah, I was looking at the boxes after dinner and picked that up, thanks for the help so far, I'm getting close to giving this a whirl.
