Default Made a mistake with SIG P220: suggestions?

I was taking the E2 grips off my new SIG P220. Had the slide off the frame. As I pulled the grip off, some how, the hammer dropped...with the slide off the frame.

I know this is a no no. But it happened. Once.

Did I damage the frame or any small parts? I know the hammer contacted the sear with the slide off.

Any test (short of firing a box of ammo down range) to confirm any damage to the frame or sear? I checked the holes in the frame through which the sear pin is held. No ovaling or cracks that I could see. The sear assembly has no movement when I push it. And the hammer stays cocked (no push off).

This is my carry pistol. Is it safe to still carry it?

    Thanks.

Visually inspect the area where the hammer contacted the frame. Its probably fine. Reassemble and function check.

Hammer dropping with the slide off once, twice, thrice, even a dozen or more times should not cause damage, because a quality designed and built pistol should be sufficiently robust to withstand that "abuse" infrequently. Nothing you want to make a habit of, but a SIG P220 should not be harmed after one drop against the frame.

    Do as Marinville recommended above.

Might also want to post at Sigtalk to get another opinion.

I'd place a high wager you're fine. But if you're paranoid, carry something else until you can get to the range.

I've slipped and accidentally let an AR hammer fall and smack into the receiver with the lower separated before. Nothing happened. But you definitely don't want to make a habit of it.

Me too. ^^ This was a relatively expensive .308. I was like numb with fear. It wasn't mine, it was a friend's. No problem ever arose.

Examine the frame under a good light using a magnifier. The 220 is very robust but to alleviate your concerns do the inspection then reassemble and test fire. I'm certain there was no damage, it's your confidence in your carry piece that needs reassurance.

I have the Sig Armorer's Course under my belt (several years ago) and currently own two P220's; one is my duty carry, the other is my range/training gun. Lots of time on both, lots of rounds through both. No, you didn't hurt anything.

You could run your Sig over with a truck and submerse it in mud. Take your hose, wash off the mud, and then shoot another 10,000 rounds just to see if things work...
