How is this not considered the same as a poll tax? You're literally paying to exercise your right, but this is worse because NJ doesn't have to issue the permit.

    Seems pretty plain-English to me:

Governor Murphy has expressed support to raise the fees in the past. ”It's hard to believe it's actually cheaper to get a permit to purchase a handgun, which is $2, than it is to get a dog license in practically any town in our state," Murphy said at a June 13, 2018, bill signing.
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

It's hard to believe there's no permit required for free speech. Yet.

What makes the police and LE retirees so special? We are all supposed to be treated equally under the law, aren't we?

    That's fair.
How is that fair? Are you just trying to be facetious?

There is a list of bills that were stalled by either legislative committee or Christie, that they will be pushing full force now.
Yes, $300 for a card that grants people "permission to purchase" longarms that they want renewed every 4 years. I hope to be out of the state before mine gains the ability to expire.

Nope! New jersey's 2018 budget is already 2.7 billion more than Pennsylvania. Im sure it will be reaching new heights with the current administration.

Sounds like another case of Murphy's law. The Police who are still active are covered under LEOSA. As for the retired officers they should also be covered under LEOSA. As for the rest who continue to live under the rule of the fourth reich, oh well!
