The wiser course is to maintain situational awareness. The reason we maintain situational awareness is because our responses should vary depending on the situation. The fights we choose when alone should not be the same fights we choose when we also need to protect our loved ones.

Extremism is seldom a wise choice; Barry Goldwater said that extremism in the name of liberty is no vice, but you'll notice his name is missing from the list of US Presidents.

Yes, agreed. Wasn’t sure if fingers was a troll or not.

One can maintain a general position while varying the behavior according to the situation.

Wife with me, she gets behind him while I distract him, and BAM!

    Me alone. RUN!!!
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

    LOL!

Honestly, I don't see this as a "win". You complied. The end.
You certainly didn't need to - you could have left. "Trespass" is only an issue if you tell them to fuck off and continue to shop.

Nobody "learned anything" about gun owners except that by complaining, they can get their way. They didn't get you arrested, of made to leave, but their "win" was bigger than your win to them.

To be clear, I don't think there's a "wrong" way to handle it - unless it lands you in the back of a patrol car.

I just don't see it as a "great compromise" or a "win", like so many others are saying.
If anyone "won" it was the guy who complained.

I subscribe to the Dalton mantra - be nice - until it is time not to be nice.
