Technically, that attitude is called "being an adult instead of a spoiled brat".
Brats throw tantrums in the supermarket, brats don't care who's around when they get into loud arguments. People break up with their girlfriends or boyfriends at dinner in restaurants because they expect that it will avoid a loud, nasty scene, and they're usually right about that.
There's a middle ground between extremism and passivity. The current GOP is a bunch of losers who will never push back with any real enthusiasm, the current DNC is a bunch of commie freaks who won't stop their demands until they're killed. Try to find that sweet spot in the middle, where you fight when it's wise and you don't fight when the circumstances are such that only an idiot would fight.
