What can I carry with a sportsman’s firearm permit

Hello all just looking to see if there are restrictions on what I can carry I’ve called sheriffs office and was told they don’t know so here I am. I would like to be able to carry my 1911 with me. Also when and where can I carry I’m 18 looking for some quick draw protection from snakes and bobcats thanks for the help

I don't know but you should reapply and get one for "Self Defence". That will cover you for open carry and concealed carry and make it easier to transport weapons in your vehicle.

Hello stainless thank you for the response. How would I go about getting a permit for self defense in pa I’m 18. I would like to have something in the field with me and would like to be able to carry at work but I’ve been told it’s not worth the trouble witch is reasonable

The Sportsmen permit is available from our county treasurer [bring your hunting license] that will allow you to carry a loaded handgun while hunting, fishing -or- dog training.

It allows transport, unloaded if you listen to the PA Game commission booklet, though some say you can transport it loaded.

Some say it has to be openly carried while hunting, fishing -or- dog training although a retired WCO said [on hunting PA.com] it could be concealed by your hunting clothing...

It is available at age 18 though i wouldn't test the potential problems at that age; transport unloaded and wear it openly until you are old enough to get the LTCF.

Sorry, you will have to wait until you are 21 to obtain the LTCF.

To be perfectly honest, you don't need a firearm to protect yourself from snakes and bobcats in PA and a Sportsman's Permit will not cover you while at work. You will be able to carry while hunting/fishing, but that's it. You will have to wait until you are 21 and can get your LTCF to do anything more than that.
