Default Sunday Night Rock Island Project

i figured id start this project tonight so where to begin? chamber is clear and slide is seized up as well as the hammer. my plan was to remove the hand grips then soak it to see if it loosens up. my first plan was to hit it with something.

    thoughts?

White vinegar will strip everything that's oxide based (rust, the finish). Throw it in, walk away for a week.

It'll work faster, but it isn't aggressive enough to hurt anything. It's a go-to "not in a hurry" solution. So it might eat all the rust in 30-40 minutes, but if you're starting a project on a Sunday and might not get back to it until Saturday it's a much better solution than something like naval jelly.

Is that practical to use in automotive operations as well?

If you can soak it, yes. But in a situation where you might be relying on a soaked rag to keep the liquid on the fastener you'll want something more aggressive.

Evaporust, like HKUsp recommended, works great here.

But if you have nuts/bolts or something with surface rust that you don't want to take a sander to? White vinegar bath and just leave it be.

Soaking first. Nuts off, kroil, knocker loose, 4 in one, wd40, atf, kerosine, anything thin. Look into the cathode anode process.
