I didn't follow every post, so pardon me if I missed something.

It looks like you soaked it in oil, removed the rust, and then removed the finish, polished the bare metal, and... PROFIT!

Did I miss a step(s)?

Looks like you stripped it to bare metal and called it done. Did you do anything else that I missed?

That about sums it up. The frame is still bare metal. At some point I’ll hit it with a rattle can or maybe cerakote it or something but for now it’s done. The slide was stripped polished. I replaced the sear, disconnector, recoil spring, thumb safety, plunger tube and then added a chip McCormic magazine.

Great job for such a ruff start. Are you going to keep it in an oily rag to prevent rusting?

I’ll keep my eye on it. In the 10 years I’ve been here I’ve never had anything rust down there and I keep all types of metal laying around. I have a semi-above ground basement with 2 dehumidifiers going in the summer.

After all that work I would hit it with the cheapest rust preventative coating or at least keep it in a gun sock.

I doubt it will be a problem. I have a rifle that I was told was "stripped" of it's blueing by it's previous owner and never refinished. It's not bare steel, and maybe ALL the bluing wasn't removed, but it's been 10 years and it hasn't gotten any worse. I usually wipe it with oil once a year.
