    Default What powder for...5.56 .300 blackout .308

I have quite a bit O powder in various flavors, but I think I need to be deliberate in prepping.

    What's the best powder for

    5.56 ( .223) out of AR 15?

    .300 Blackout subsonic?

    .308 out of AR 10?

.300 Blackout subsonic? Accurate 1680 or Hodgdon makes a new one called which seems to mirror 1680 called "CFE BLK" - Forgot to add Im now loading 110gn pills using H-110 or Lil Gun

.308 out of AR 10? I'm using Varget but I just started 308
My answers in blue. My choices are based on max loads that give the highest published velocities in the Hornady manual.

My reasoning is based on a statement I read somewhere that basically asked "Why would someone want to load a .308 to shoot like a 30-30" unless you are shooting for one hole groups. I've since gotten away from trying to find specific loads for battle cartridges. Just looking for best performance upon impact.

    I like AA2230 for 5.56, and .223. I've used IMR 4620, and 4895 for 7.5 French which is ballistically similar to the .308. I don't have a 300 Blackout so can't comment.

Can also run 4198 in 300 subs. Varget, blc-2, benchmark, cfe 223 for the other too.

The above powers can make blastin or precision ammo easily in either 223 or 308. And most other small and medium bore rifles.

    H335 for 5.56.

for 300 i am up to 10 different powders. H110 has been the most acurate with supers.
cfe black seems to be a dirty mess with subs. wants a compressed load.
1680 is working well with ducati ron's 220 grain coatrd lead at low velocity. it cycles my ar pistol. i am in the process of downloading it.

I have found Lil Gun is the best for 300 Blackout. I also have IMR 4227 and CFE BLK that I have not tried yet.

For 308, IMR 4895 or Varget I would imagine would handle most needs.

300 Blk was developed around the a1680 powder. It’s what was used for the saami specs. The newer 300blk specific stuff is all very close to it

The problem here is that no powder is going to be great for every gun chambered in a certain cartridge. I had a crap load of h335 that I got dirt cheap I was using in .223 and .308, never had an issue with either load but I was just doing plinking stuff.

300 Blackout- What bullet weight? Heavy Subs for a Semi-A1680, Also had good results with 208 AMAX with some LIL'GUN....Super silent 125 grain bullets out of a bolt or break action 5.0 grains of Trail boss.

    5.56 .223 I like H335 or Varget . I also think Reloader 15 works (been a while since I loaded any)

My dies for .308 are in transit from Midway USA so I haven't thought much about the powder yet.
