Any thoughts on uppers with NO FORWARD ASSIST?

Any more or less important for a 7.62x39 pistol vs a 5.56 pistol/carbine?

I have a few builds that have "slick side" uppers - Andersons that have no forward assist and no provision for adding a dust cover, and Aero Precision with no forward assist, but WITH a dust cover.
Just ran across an Aero slick side (like below) for $65 shipped...tom's tactical

As long as you clean it you shouldn't need a forward assist

    Appreciate the input.

I came "this close" to ordering an upper from BCA today.
They have a set - upper with FA and dust cover installed + charging handle + 7.62x39 BCG all for $99.90 Shipped free (president's day)
That's a ridiculously good deal, but I couldn't do it. Just too afraid of problems - specifically with the BCG.

I'll just stick to what I know works. Nothing set in stone, but I'll likely use the same Aero Precision upper as pictured.

Even though BCA was raided for employing like 20+ illegal immigrants?

    Yeah, because I'm "this broke".
That's in the back of my mind and I wanted to wait until finding out just what's what with that, but the price was SO good.
Both the "employment thing" and questionable quality were factors in deciding to wait for something else.

Aero Precision has a bunch of FDE blem uppers, lowers, and hand guards on sale that I was pondering as well, but after adding their barrel nut, the price came out only $10 less than I can get non-blems from Granite Ridge any day of the week.

I need to slow down. I get all excited about a build, and my eyes get bigger than my wallet.

I do think I'm leaning towards a 7-8" barrel though vs 10.5" - not 100% set on that, but "SHORT" is just so damned awesome.

From what I read they had a number of employees with faked papers that got caught in that raid.

Not sure if you were looking only to build your own or if your interested in a complete upper as well.

According to QA at the bottom, this will work on a standard ar lower.

Thanks for the tip. Not quite the setup I want, but not a bad price at all considering it includes the BCG and CH.
Still leaning towards a 7.5", but if I go 10.5", I want a "full length" hand guard.
I'll probably build it because I can get everything spread out over time, but if the right complete upper pops up, I'll have to consider it.

I saw this one elsewhere for $139 and thought it was a decent deal. (needs BCG and CH)
Unsure about their quality - not sure how I got on their mailing list.

    and it begins...

I haven't decided on a barrel yet (likely going with 7"-8"), but I ordered a stripped upper.
Got the Aero Precision slick side with dust cover just like I used on my carbine build. (pic a few posts up)
RightToBear.com had them for $55 and I got free shipping by adding another item to the order.

I would have gotten a 7.62x39 BCG from them too, but I have to wait til I have some more funds.
Blem RTB BCG for $74.95 (noted for future reference)
