What's your budget? I know you have a lower already, but have you considered a complete gun?

Palmetto has their Gen 2 KS-47 available in two pistol flavors and they use AK mags -

How is steel cased 7.62x39 in ARs (reliability wise)?

Provided the proper mods of the bolt are there (either shorter bolt tail or enhanced firing pin) and the gas portnisnthencorrectnsize, I’ve run strictly steel in mine without issue. Wolf and Red Army have been my choices. Not sure about Tula as it is known to be weaker.

Good question - I forgot to mention what I was looking to spend in the OP.

Last night I posted a complete 7.62 pistol for $410 in the Deals thread that's already configured pretty much the way I envision this.
That said, I don't have $400 to spend.

My "budget" is "A barrel here and a LPK there" - I can do this if I do it like all my other "guns in a box" - one piece at a time.

Ultimately, it may add up to more than I would be willing to pay straight up for a complete gun, but I'll have the exact parts I want.
Or I could buy every part as cheaply as possible and get away with a true "budget build", but "cheap" isn't my goal - "affordable" is.
I'm just not going to spend $285 on a high end BCG when I can get one for $125, while passing on a "budget BCG" for $49.

    LOL!

Actually, I don't know. I have to sort through my boxes of assorted parts to see if I need one or not.
That's actually a good price - pretty much the same as a LPK minus trigger group that many places have on sale.
Not sure if I'll use a standard milspec trigger, or upgrade to something else.

You sound like me...I like the thrill of the chase! I enjoy researching and gathering the parts and putting it all together as much as actually shooting the finished project, LOL!

Looks like a fun project you got going on...I'm not much help since I haven't departed from 5.56 yet!

Come on in, the water's fine!

    Here's my 7.62x39 carbine.

All that's different is the barrel and magazine - no need for a special lower. Easy peasy.
EDIT: Need a 7.62x39 BCG as well. Forgot that one!

I forgot to look at PSA - that's where I got the barrel for my 7.62x39 carbine.

They have 10.5" on sale for $80 and the 7" barrel for ($100 reg price)

I haven't had an issue. As stated above though it is a wise ideal to have a dedicated x39 firing pin and an extra power hammer spring.
