    White is the correct answer. When we have to make arrest records, Hispanics are listed as white. They are recognized as white by law.

    Except that many (if not most) Latinos from Mexico, Central and South America are Mestizo. That is, a mix of European Spanish (white) and Native American. Those, very much like myself, though instead of Spanish my forebears were French. In Canada my cousins are called Metis. At one time the US gov't defined a "White" as one with 1/16th (6.25%) or less American Indian ancestry.

    Don't know about Federal law. But, Switchblades and gravity knives were illegal in NY State long before Crocodile Dundee and West Side Story!
