Slide Release or Rack It?

Even the French pistol I learned to shoot some 50 years ago has the thing conveniently located where it can be triggered with the thumb when the gun is gripped. BTW, it doesn't seem to be worn out yet.

I got a chuckle out of the safety on it if you can make it out in these pictures. The safety resides completely in the slide and what it does is flips up a blocking mechanism so the hammer can't hit the firing pin. Safety on in second picture.

This is just as bad as calling a mag a clip.

I'd suggest that you write a letter to H&K and inform them about this aberation on their part, as it doesn't look like they got that memo.

It's AKA a side lock, take down pin, or idiot mark maker.

Yeah, all my Sig's have slide releases. I prefer to use the slide to release it from the stop. I got used to doing it that way years ago when I heard the myth about rounding the slide stop cut out on the slide. That's why it was easy for me to adopt to the Nano which has no slide release.

Well that certainly is interesting and surprising to me ....so I read my cz manuals and the wording is fairly similar to what was posted in the H&k manual.. I really didn’t think using the slide stop to “reload” the gun was an acceptable action suggested by the manufacturer. (According to my previous instructors and books I have read)

I still believe in one consistent action to load/and reload a gun plus it works for “the majority” of hand guns across the board so I continue with my current operation. It works for me.

Your comparison is heavily flawed.

A mag and a clip are two completely separate things that in some cases can service a similar function. A slide stop/release can be one part that can be designed to serve both functions. This is why so many manufacturers make extended slide releases to better serve that specific function as shown above in manuals themselves.

I agree with you, whatever you choose use it consistently. Do you have any idea what a curve ball it is when you've done it one way for 50 years and someone tries to change that? Even after giving the slide racking method an honest try I cannot see any advantage to it. It's cumbersome, takes two hands, more moves and more time. And the feeling is even more satisfying when I press the slide release and the slide slaps home.

I would not call it a ridiculous argument at all. There are pluses and minuses so I read from the gun owners here. It’s about choices and personal preference.

Yes I do know - I get a satisfied feeling too - when I aggressively pull back hard on the slide letting it slam bam thank you ma’am style forward (-: Different strokes for different folks !
