    Default Restaurant near Castle Shannon?

Going to a hockey tournament there Saturday night, looking for a decent place to eat, not overly expensive.
Meeting wife's cousin, whose son is playing, they are from Florida.

I'm going to guess and say you are going to the Ice Castle for the hockey tournament. I like an Italian restaurant that is very close to there called Carbonara's http://www.carbonararistorante.com/

Drive 5 minutes into Whitehall and go to Armstrong's. My favorite Italian in the Burgh.

May I suggest Stuffed Eggplant Parm with a fried zucchini appetizer. Go hungry.

It's a few miles down Rt. 88, but the Italian hoagies at Danny's Pizza are the absolute best sandwiches on the face of the earth. Just order "Half an Italian with everything" for each person in your party, and get a few slices for good measure. Call ahead and order when you leave the ice rink - 412-833-7788. I've known that number by heart for 30 years.

    You can thank me later.

Truckman....that's a "combo" sub to you here in Erie, but nothing like one at the same time. I stop at get an Italian every once in a while if I make it into town. I was sad to see the Rt. 51 location closed.

FWIW, I've been to Armstrong's and Danny's as well. Both fine choices! Carbonara's is just closer.

The Rt. 51 Danny's closed? I didn't know that. I've been going to Danny's since the drive-in was next door, but I never ate at the Rt. 51 one.

Yes, sadly it did. I grew up about five minutes from there. Had high school friends work there etc.... I am going to make it a point to go to the Bethel Park shop the next time I am in town. The Italian hoagie at Frisch's, which happens to be next to Armstrong's is also a strong contender. They had a small branch shop right by my house as a kid called The Chicken Derby. We used to walk there from elementary school for pizza and subs. My how times have changed.
