Re: LTFC Confiscated
So this whole thread begs the question: Is it the greater evil to scrupulously obey the law, lock your firearm in your car, enter the post office, or posted mall, or casino or wherever, have your firearm subsequently stolen, and now probably out on the street being used in a crime by some thug? And have PPD confiscate your CCW to boot. Or, keep the firearm concealed, go about your business, and return home later in the day with your firearm and CCW still in your possession? Which is the greater evil?
I'm not talking about entering a government building or some other area with airport level security and metal detectors, more so places that you are not supposed to carry, but where there are no significant precautions to prevent it.
Also, if wherever you were parked it is common to have your car broken into, it seems to me that that is exactly the kind of place you would want to be carrying your firearm with you - not leaving it locked in the car!

Re: LTFC Confiscated
Agreed ^^
also ditto ^^
It sounds like a detective overstepping his authority. Knowing most folks would have said "oops left it at my house since I don't have my EDC anymore" He did not disclose HE was going to confiscate.. and under what authority did he act????

Re: LTFC Confiscated
There are several types of small or "mini" safes that have cable ties, usually fit under seats or in center consoles, and have motion sensor alarms.
I use one when I travel as I never know when I might need to enter a prohibited place. I also bring the unit into my hotel room while I sleep. No system prevents all theft but the casual thief would think twice especially once the alarm sounds.
I don't think it should be mandated, though, but it is a good idea. Also, get a nice cheap backup. Used is fine for that. Lately, Taurus has had great pricing on the G2s and the US designed and produced Spectrum (.380). If a shooting or trial occurs, the gun in question will go into evidence until the case is adjudicated. It may take years, it could get lost or damaged! So a backup becomes paramount. It is you. You have all the weapons that you need. Now fight. --Sucker Punch

Re: LTFC Confiscated
I'll play your what if, and turn it on you. what if the OP parked on a public street to go to the Post Office (legally can't have firearms on their parking lot) or other facility where firearms were not legally authorized for carry? What if the OP was just a law abiding citizen twice victimized , both times by scum who feel entitled to his property, only thing is one is backed by the Government of the city?
