Another vote for Boyers here. Guns at rear and well above the rest of the store, not sure about the surplus stuff, but that is possible. Neither Army-Navy mentioned has/had a raised section for guns.

The Army and Navy in Reading at both locations, didn't have an elevated gun floor. Thy were at the rear of the store but not raised.
I think that Edelman's in Montgomeryville may have had a step up into the gun area, although I am not positive.

One thing that stands out about Boyers; it was a hardware store. You have to walk through the hardware section before you get to the gun loft. The hardware section would be hard to forget.

I think the Army Navy on 5th st was level floor. Pretty sure, not totally positive.

I do remember one in West Reading on the corner of Penn Ave and 5th Ave. Catty corner the gas station. Bought stuff there but can't recall the name of it.

I've been to some of those, it wasn't Boyer's or Edelman's or the one in Reading. I'm wondering if it was the sporting goods dept in Hess's back in the 1960's, in Allentown.

Weird how a specific memory can just float up.

My vote is for AF Boyer in Slatington. They also had a full wall display of Trapdoor Springfields, swords, bayonets, etc at the lower hardware level. Walk up the stairs and you could spend a few hours there perusing the cases and wall racks. They even had/have an overflow room - but you had to ask about it....
