Default Pittsburgh City Council Hearing date set

I got a telephone call from a member of City Council this morning.

They're having another hearing on February 12 at 13:30.

The public will be able to attend but no comments from the public will be accepted.

There will be a Panel with whom the City Council will have a discussion.

So far, I only know who two of the panelists are. John Lott is scheduled to be one. I am to be another.

I hope you can all attend.

I attended a John Lott gun debate years ago and it was very enlightening. He has a very calm demeanor even with assholes. I would like to attend but I hate driving downtown as I get so turned around on those streets. ** I will figure out a way..... I'm in.

Thanks for the heads up. Was there a specific reason you were asked to speak, and was it buy the city council?

I believe it is because the member of City Council wanted to have the regular gun owner represented. And I had previously reached out on the matter.

When the news broke that two members of City Council removed their names as co-sponsors, I thought that might be my "in" so I reached out and asked for a meeting with them. We spent about two hours talking and I explained the myriad uses a regular citizen would have for wanting to own one of the demonized firearms and they came to know how much more gun enthusiasts know about the current state of the law than most elected officials, so I was asked if I would be willing to serve as a panelist. I said yes and we remained in touch. When the date of the hearing was set, I was called and notified.

Wow, all I can say is I am glad we have people like you and several others here who have been instrumental in getting things done and being heard on the western side of the state. I wish you luck and pray that your knowledge and insight does not fall upon deaf ears.

    Thanks again Walt.

I know a lot of us think that their passing this is a forgone conclusion. Here’s to hoping that we are wrong and that there are members of council who were truly clueless about firearms and preemption because all they’ve heard over the years is “guns are bad” and thought it was a simple matter to outlaw whatever they want.

Hopefully the protest and hearing opened eyes. Hopefully people like you and John Lott will be able to drive home the point that what they are doing is illegal, unconstitutional, and in the eyes of many immoral.

    Good luck.
