Re: PGC takes semi-auto hunting off the table for 2019/2020
Yeah, sorta figured.
Why I got a lever action. That and it had been 2.5 decades since I last used a bolt action.
My muscle memory was not up to snuff (nonexistent) to do fast chambering of next round.
So, lazy fellow that I am, I split the difference and got the lever-action.
Boss and co-worker thought I did have a semi-auto when I double tapped my deer this year.

Re: PGC takes semi-auto hunting off the table for 2019/2020
There are a lot of "traditional hunters" who hate the thought of someone using an M1 Garand to hunt deer. They have been against this idea for some time.
The "traditional hunter" rap has been part of Senator Casey's mails for some time. Same with a lot other self style "gun control moderates".
The PGC doesn't want its funding messed with and does not want to involve itself in the gun control issue.
Wolf and the Democrats probably have a small role to play.

Re: PGC takes semi-auto hunting off the table for 2019/2020
The PGC is funded by license sales along with timber and mineral sales. They haven't had a license increase in 20 years (what hasn't gone up in 20 years) so the legislature has been messing with their funding for a long time. If they are trying to placate the legislature it doesn't appear to be working. Same for the Fish Commission.Sticks and stones will break my bones but hollow points expand on impact.

iMHO the reason for the drop off in deer hunters though out the state is Gary Ault and his policies to eliminate the PA Deer herd....He did and great job and moved on to working with (for) the lumber industry. What a POS

Re: PGC takes semi-auto hunting off the table for 2019/2020
I believe I understand where you are coming from, and I have certainly seen more large bucks harvested in the past few years than in decades past. If that is the goal, Alts's program might be considered a success. The other side of the coin is that many, many hunters are seeing few or no deer on many hunting days. This is particularly true for those who don't have access to posted private land. I've seen firsthand that hunting for hours or even days on end without seeing any deer results in reduced interest among hunters, especially young hunters. So, for people who are trying to cultivate new hunters, quantity over quality is indeed a good thing.
Of course, the whole issue is complicated.
