    Default rangefinder?

Can anyone recommend a mid priced ($300) rangefinder?
Online reviews are as bad as i have ever seen. They all suck, or are great, or recommend the competition, which all suck, or are great, and recommend the previous unit that sucked or was great.

    Any real world experience?

It will mostly be used for setting up archery stands, and can't see it being used over 500 yds.
    Seemed like a simple purchase.

You can get that level of rangefinder for about $150-$200.
I use a low budget Nikon Aculon and it has worked well for me.

I purchased a Leupold RX-650 and have enjoyed it. Simple to use, good battery life and durable - dropped from tree stand this year, no issues after drop.

Do either of you use it for hunting? If so under what conditions.

Cabela's/Bass Pro reviews seem to complain the Leupold units have a known display issue within a couple years.

    I know, but just checking.

No, I do my hunting at the deli counter, and occasionally behind my girlfriend's ass...
I use mine at the range, and it just gets slammed around in a range bag most of the time.
I've had it for a few years, I don't baby it, but I do keep it dry most of the time.
So I can't be sure how it will perform in the field.

Data point of 1, but my buddies high end Leupold display pooped the bed this year. I think it was 6 years old. Leupold repaired it but with a service charge.

I’ve got an older Bushnell 10 years or more and it’s still going strong. Doesn’t have all the fancy gadgets, just range.
