Anyone with a Hornady loading manual - need one thing please!
Does anyone have a Hornady reloading book that can check something for me? Looking for max load data for 300 RUM using Retumbo with a 200gn ELD-X
I have Lymans book (useless for this cartridge)
Modern Reloading 2nd Edition
Sierra's Book
Nosslers book
I can get about where I need to be with those books but I want to make sure of the max load for that bullet from the manufacturer.
Thank you in advance!

I have Hornady 9th edition. It doesn't have a 200 gr bullet listed.
190 interlock BTSP Retumbo. 87.6 min, 98.9 max
My Berger manual has a 210 gr VLD target
Retumbo 82.5 min, 98.0 max
Lyman 49th edition has a 200 gr jacketed A-frame bullet
Retumbo min 91.0, max 96.0
Hopefully someone has a manual with the correct bullet. Gives you an idea.Any vote for a third party is a vote for a Democrat. You are the enemy.

Re: Anyone with a Hornady loading manual - need one thing please!
The biggest problem with large cases and slow powders is the individual rifles chamber/ lead will give a larger variation in max load / velocity than a listed max load in some book.
According to the loads referenced above a RUM can take almost 100 grains Retumo with similarly sized bullet. So if you use the standard start at max -10% that 9 grains! ALL of the referenced loads start around 90 and are in a similar range.
In other words start a little under 90 grains with a 190-210grain bullet and carefully work up. Over a chronograph. and know how to check for pressure sighs. When you hit the listed velocity you are done. Without a chronograph you are just guessing. I have some rifles with a short neck that shot close to over pressure at close to a minimum load. The same reloads in another rifle were fine. I have also had issues with Hornady's listed max shooting 200 FPS slower than they claimed. They are known to be conservative.
I would never attempt to get close to a max in any rifle without a chrony.Last edited by Delkal; January 25th, 2019 at 08:54 PM.

Here is a discussion on one of my favorite sites concerning 200 gr in 300 rum: https://www.longrangehunting.com/thr...00-rum.173503/

Thank you. I just joined that forum as I've been finding a ton of useful information there. I'm working on a load for the 300RUM
Best group so far was 90gn of H1000 3 shots in 3/4" 2 were touching and the other was slightly off to the left but that could have been me.
Retumbo hasn't been the best performer for me in this gun. Granted I haven't spent much time with the gun yet. 90gn Retumbo with either the 200 ELD-x or 200 Nossler AB I was getting 3"+ groups at 100 yds. That and my velocity was all over the place. With the H1000 the velocities were all within 25fps from slowest to fastest.
