The San Francisco ghosts in Kamala Harris' past
    by Tiana Lowe
    | January 23, 2019 12:08 PM

Few outside of California know or care who Willie Brown is. But that may be about to change.

Brown spent around a quarter of a century as de facto royalty in California, first serving more than three decades as a member of the California Assembly (15 years as its speaker), and then eight years as mayor of San Francisco.

He also once carried out an open extramarital affair with a young prosecutor named Kamala Harris, currently a U.S. senator and leading contender for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Now, we're far beyond the point that a personal past like that disqualifies a candidate. Harris, after all, is vying to challenge a thrice-married man who once graced the cover of Playboy and publicized his infidelity on the cover of the New York Post. Candidates' personal lives no longer warrant deep investigation, unless they tell us something about their professional and political lives.

Unfortunately for Harris, the Willie Brown story is not strictly personal. It's also professional.

When Harris was barely 30, she began dating Brown, then in his 60s and speaker of the California Assembly. To be clear, an ambitious woman dating a powerful man is not alone any cause for concern. Strong women are attracted to success, and a 30-year-old assistant district attorney is hardly, say, a 21-year-old intern. But the story doesn't end there.

For one thing, Brown was married at the time. He wound up dumping Harris and returning to his wife as he became mayor. (Again, in the era of President Trump, few will clutch their pearls over this.)

More questionable than the romance is the relationship's apparent effect on her finances and her career. Brown, according to contemporary news accounts, gifted his then-girlfriend two government jobs with ample salaries — while she was just getting her start as an assistant DA.

As the San Francisco Weekly reported in 2003:
Aside from handing her an expensive BMW, Brown appointed her to two patronage positions in state government that paid handsomely — more than $400,000 over five years. In 1994, she took a six-month leave of absence from her Alameda County job to join the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board. Brown then appointed her to the California Medical Assistance Commission, where she served until 1998, attending two meetings a month for a $99,000 annual salary.

(That's more than $150,000 in current dollars.)

Even after they broke up, Brown, a San Francisco kingmaker, continued to support Harris' career, boosting her district attorney run and years later calling on Antonio Villaraigosa to stay out of the Senate race, thus clearing the field for Harris.

Just two years into her tenure as senator, Harris now wants to reach the White House.

The facts are messy, but most in California politics are. If she earned few hundred thousand dollars in taxpayer-funded patronage thanks to a personal relationship, that undermines some of her good-government cred. Or at least it requires her to explain how she's changed.

Barack Obama wisely fessed up about his drug usage long before he was a presidential candidate, and he alluded to his personal growth and past mistakes enough that it created a satisfying narrative, one that couldn't be used against him. Donald Trump was a womanizer and a brash braggart, but that was his entire brand for more than two decades. The first real instance where his past came to haunt him was when he seemed to confess to sexual battery on the now-infamous Access Hollywood tape. The allegations of consensual affairs never really mattered.

Harris doesn't talk about Brown. She says that it's not relevant. But part of her prosecutorial persona is a posture of toughness on corruption. But the Willie Brown story, with those big paychecks, gives off at least a whiff of cronyism. She's got to address the charge she was profiting personally off connections to power — at least if she wants us to believe she actually stands for the people.

Kamala Harris aide, 2 others arrested for allegedly running fake Masonic police department

    Wednesday, May 06, 2015
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KABC) -- Three people, including an aide to California Attorney General Kamala Harris, were arrested for impersonating police officers and creating a fake law enforcement agency called the Masonic Fraternal Police Department.

On April 29, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department detectives served search and arrest warrants in the 28000 block of Linda Vista Street and the 17000 block of Sierra Highway, both in Santa Clarita. Three people were arrested and identified as David Henry, 46, of Santa Clarita, Tonette Hayes, 59, of Santa Clarita, and Brandon Kiel, 31, of Los Angeles.

Badges, identification cards, weapons, uniforms, police-type cars and other law enforcement equipment were found in the searches at both locations.

Henry, Hayes and Kiel were all arrested for impersonating a peace officer and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley station. Henry also faces charges of perjury under oath. Kiel, who worked as deputy director of community affairs at the California Department of Justice, faces charges for misuse of government identification.

He is on administrative leave and the department could not comment on an ongoing personnel matter or criminal investigation.

Near the end of January, chiefs of select law enforcement agencies throughout Southern California received letters stating Henry had been elected as chief of the so-called MFPD.

Shortly after the agencies received the letters, many started receiving phone calls from Kiel, who identified himself as the chief deputy director of the organization. He began requesting meetings with agency chiefs.

A meeting was scheduled between members of MFPD and Capt. Roosevelt Johnson with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station on Feb. 4.

During the meeting, the group claimed they were descendants of the "Knights Templar" and that their police agency was created in 1100 B.C. The members also claimed their department had sovereign jurisdiction in 33 states and Mexico.

The meeting raised red flags, and LASD detectives began an investigation into the group.

"They couldn't answer basic questions about the MFPD's jurisdiction and the overall department mission," Deputy Amber Smith said.

Detectives conducted their investigation in collaboration with several other law enforcement agencies and found that MFPD was not legitimate. Detectives also believe the three suspects were attempting to deceive citizens in the community and that other people may be associated with the fictitious organization.

The case is still under investigation. Anyone with more information is asked to contact the LASD Emergency Operations Bureau Sheriff's Intelligence Unit Detective Amalia Hernandez at (323) 980-2211. Those wishing to remain anonymous may contact "Crime Stoppers" at (800) 222-8477.

Kamala Harris Senior Aide Resigns After Sexual Harassment Settlement Surfaces
The California Department of Justice paid $400,000 to settle a lawsuit against aide Larry Wallace.

A senior aide to Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) resigned on Wednesday amid reports that the state paid $400,000 to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against him while Harris was the California attorney general.

Harris has denied knowledge of the lawsuit against Larry Wallace, who directed the state Department of Justice’s Division of Law Enforcement during her tenure as attorney general, and continued to work for her after she began her term in the U.S. Senate last year.

Danielle Hartley, former executive assistant to Wallace, accused him of “gender harassment,” including forcing her to perform demeaning tasks like washing his car and crawling under his desk to refill the paper in his printer.

The lawsuit was filed on Dec. 30, 2016, shortly before Harris was sworn in as a senator. The California Department of Justice settled the suit in May 2017 under Harris’ successor, Attorney General Xavier Becerra.

Wallace resigned this week after The Sacramento Bee inquired about the settlement.

Harris’ office did not respond to HuffPost’s requests for comment.

“We were unaware of this issue and take accusations of harassment extremely seriously,” Harris spokeswoman Lily Adams said in a statement to the Bee on Wednesday. “This evening, Mr. Wallace offered his resignation to the senator and she accepted it.”

Becerra’s office filed an answer to the lawsuit in January 2017, saying the department denied “generally and specifically each and every allegation contained in the Complaint.”

The attorney general said his department took “reasonable steps to prevent and correct workplace harassment” with new procedures and training. The department’s filing claimed Hartley “unreasonably failed to utilize the procedures during the period of time, and after, the alleged harassment or discrimination was occurring.”

“Had Plaintiff taken reasonable effort to utilize these procedures Plaintiff’s alleged harm, injury or damages would have been avoided, in whole or in part,” Becerra wrote.

A spokesperson for the attorney general said in a statement to HuffPost: “The California Department of Justice does not comment on personnel matters and this case was handled in keeping with standard procedure.”

Hartley’s lawsuit accused Wallace of replacing her “meaningful tasks” with personal errands like booking flights for his children and washing his car. She also alleged he placed his printer under his desk and asked her to crawl on the floor to refill the paper on a daily basis, often while he was sitting there.

Hartley claims she faced retaliation from supervisors when she came forward to report the harassment.

Hartley agreed to a non-disclosure clause in the settlement that prevents her from discussing the agreement publicly. She also resigned from her position and agreed she wouldn’t seek employment with the department again.

Harris emerged as a prominent voice against workplace sexual harassment amid the rise of the Me Too movement. She teamed up with Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) on a bipartisan bill earlier this year to curtail the use of non-disclosure agreements in harassment settlements.

“The culture of fear and silence created by perpetrators of sexual harassment in the workplace has existed for far too long and must come to an end,” Harris said in a June press release.

This story has been updated with a statement from the state attorney general’s spokesperson.

What Do Kamala Harris and Fusion GPS Have in Common?
    By Matt Couch - January 22, 2019

In another one of those moments where you ask yourself, “this can’t be true” Kamala Harris has done the unthinkable.

Yesterday the Senator announced her bid to run for the Democratic nomination for President.

Harris announced that Clinton Attorney Marc Elias would be her head of legal counsel and be the general counsel for her presidential campaign.

Yes, that’s the same Marc Elias who’s been an Attorney of the Clinton’s for many years. Not only that, he’s the same Attorney that hired the firm Fusion GPS to make the Fake Russian Dossier.

Elias, head of the Perkins Coie LLP law firm’s political law practice, is among the Democratic Party’s top campaign finance experts and a recognized power-player at the highest levels.

Elias and his firm currently represent every major Democratic Party committee, including the Democratic National Committee, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Democratic Governors Association, as well as numerous individual senators and representatives.

It was Elias who, as the Clinton campaign’s attorney of record, used campaign funds to retain the infamous opposition research firm Fusion GPS to compile what became known as the Steele dossier on President Donald Trump, according to the Washington Post.

Elias is the same Clinton Attorney that hired British Spy Christopher Steele, Fusion GPS, Oh and the cyber security firm CrowdStrike that viewed the DNC servers instead of the FBI in the supposed “hack” back in 2016.

Our team at America First Media Group as many of you know has been investigating the unsolved murder of Seth Conrad Rich for almost two years. Rich, shot and murdered in the early morning hours of July 10th, 2016 was the Director of New Voter Registration for the Democrats.

The fact that Elias’s firm hired the firm CrowdStrike to view the DNC servers, and wouldn’t the FBI see them is startling. The fact that Senator Harris retained him as general counsel for a presidential campaign isn’t alarming, it’s scary as hell America.

This should be looked into...not that it has stopped a Democrat from winning the Presidency before.
