There's a well known, well-used processor in Lower Bucks who will not process animals from certain states because of the wasting disease.

But Ted Nugent said CWD isn't real.

I watched part of it. Try to watch more later, it was interesting. It is really some sad shit the way the agencies dance around and try not to point fingers. I remember reading articles that said the government agencies could not figure how CWD crossed the mississipi into the east. New York-first spotted at a game farm. PA-first spotted at a game farm. How hard it that to figure out? Can't offend those people, so now it's the processed deer pee that has been on the market since I can remember. It is the high fence places responsible for it here in the east. I would be willing to bet it was originally brought in out west with imported African game animals for the ranches out there. If you cannot detect it for a year or two, who knows how many infected animals were brought in. Some could have been carriers that were immune to it. Like the rabies epidemic started in the northeast by clubs stocking raccoons from down south and the nutria mess down south. No doubt in my mind it is a man made disaster.

Could be a trade of one kind of disaster for another. Such as dropping contaminated hay to starving herds during unusually harsh winters.
As for wondering how a deer got past the Mississippi, they've been seen swimming five miles off the coast of California...just for fun. There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

They think CWD came from a research center in Colorado. They were doing tests with sheep and scrapie which is the sheep version of CWD. They think it jumped to deer or mule deer and spread out from there. It originated in Colorado from what they can tell. Heard this on the Meat Eater podcast with Steve Rinella. He had a biologist on that works in Federal wildlife management. Here's the link if you are interested. Really great info. Pretty scary.

The scary part about prion diseases is that it is impossible to sterilize an infected area. Even at the deer farms once it is in an area it is there forever. That dead carcass or even the dirt next a that pile of poop could be infectious for years. Its not going to ever go away and WILL spread........no matter what we do.
The much bigger question is can humans get it from eating the deer.

I can see why. Plum Island being protected by Homeland Security, a swimming deer could be a camouflaged single-person submarine.
