Commercial pseudo-copy of an M1907 sling.

Correct...........the hooks are much lighter than any military issued sling.

Put it on a vintage .22 and you will be cool.

Can't ID the sling, just know it's the same one as on my 121Y and it's been on there for over 30 years.

Yes, that's Cool.............a padded camo sling made out of nylon just doesn't look right on a classic .22.

But you need to rearrange the sling and hook it up correctly. If done right it is simple to adjust the amount of slack in the sling.

Don't feel bad though. About 80% of the ones you see outside of a military match are hooked up wrong too. It is confusing at first and I also forget how to put it on a rifle from time to time. Here is a link from the CMP. Also look up how to use it for a stabilized stance when target shooting.

One more link but this one references the original military manuals. It is clearer about tightening and loosening the sling.

    https://www.fulton-armory.com/faqs/AR-FAQs/sling.htm

To tighten the sling (fig. 4), grasp the inside strap of the sling near the trigger housing with the left hand. With the right hand, grasp the sling between the hooks. Now pull toward the butt with the left hand and push toward the muzzle with the right hand until the sling is tight. Slide the lower keeper toward the muzzle until the feed end of the long strap has been passed.

Figure 4: Tightening the M1907 Sling
To loosen the sling for carrying purposes, slide the lower keeper down from the feed end of the long strap and grasp the inside strap with the left hand. Now force the inside strap toward the muzzle and at the same time pull the outside strap toward the butt of the rifle.
To hold the sling in a tight position, force the upper keeper against the stock ferrule swivel and slide the lower keeper up until it has passed the feed end of the long strap.

    Simple, isn't it?

I've actually never touched the sling other than to carry the rifle.

I've had it since 1989 or 1990, and that's how it came strung. I've known that it's wrong for a while, but I've just been kinda meh about relooping it.

It is a squirrel killing machine as is, which is another part of why I haven't touched it; if it ain't broke and all that jazz.
