Montgomery County PA CCW question
It looks like I'm going to be moving into Ardmore, which it appears is in Lower Merion/Montgomery County. (it's .3 miles from Ardmore Amtrak).
I was looking at the information for obtaining my CCW. There is one item that confuses me:
Local Police check card must be signed by your local police department (New Applicants)
What is this?

Re: Montgomery County PA CCW question
ok, if you're in pa, it's a license to carry a firearm not ccw(that's the first thing ANYONE on here will bang you for. calling things the wrong thing). i didn't have to have the police sign anything for my license...so i'm not sure what the hell they're trying to pull....

As I understand it, you have to have your local police dept. verify that you are not a known criminal to them. I think you get the card from the sheriff, then take it to the police dept and have them check on you and sign it, then submit that and the LTCF app to the sheriff.

Re: Montgomery County PA CCW question
It's a card that you take to your local PD (that would be Lower Merion if you're a resident of Ardmore). Basically you fill out your name, address, how long you've resided there, etc.), and then give it to them. They are supposed to check their records and report if they have had any issues with you. I'd guess most of them just say "not known to us".

Re: Montgomery County PA CCW question
Does Lower Merion provide the card or do I have to go to the court in Norristown and obtain it?
http://sheriff.montcopa.org/sheriff/...,3,Q,15450.asp is what I'm reading btw.

Re: Montgomery County PA CCW question
From what I can remember, the card for your local PD comes along with the application for LTCF when you pick it up at the sheriff's office. My local PD in Franconia, called me a day or two after I dropped it off. Like said above, it will more than likely say Not Known to Us, meaning that you don't have a criminal record. All and all, when I received my license, it was much easier than I thought it would be. That was about 7yrs ago so, things may have changed.

You pick up both the application and the police check card at the sheriff's permit office at the courthouse in Norristown.

Re: Montgomery County PA CCW question
If you have any questions about the permit or process and feel the need to ask the Sheriff's check on every answer you get, don't take their word for anything.

One more question, the references, do they need to be Montgomery county residents, PA residents, or anyone?
