I can't find the old news articles where sheriff Mullen states his support for an assault weapon ban*, but found several posts here on the forum referencing his views on it.

*I found 2 but they were bad links with content no longer available.

The good news is, that the law is unconstitutional, that means that no cop would ever enforce it.
Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

Generally, PA sheriffs only have the same power of arrest as you and I, and they are for:

    1. When they have reason to believe a felony has occurred.
    2. When they personally witness a breach of the peace.
    3. When there is a warrant for the individual.

However, Allegheny County is the exception to the rule for Pennsylvania. Allegheny county sheriff and deputies have full Act 120 police powers due to PA statute. But with the nature of not wanting to shit in your own back yard, I wouldn't expect the Allegheny county sheriff to do a thing about it.

The community would be better off to have the PA State Police take the lead on this. The PSP owes no allegiance to Pittsburgh or Allegheny county and tends to pursue corrupt elected/appointed official on a more thorough basis that local LEO's.

The Pittsburgh Council has been warned that passage of the ordinance would be a violation of PA law. If two or more of the council members vote for it they are guilty of 903 Criminal Conspiracy. If the law passes they are in addition guilty of a 6119/6120 UFA violation. 901 Criminal Attempt probably also applies.

If the ordinance passes, any LEO enforcing that law by seizure or arrest would be guilty of Official Oppression.

Criminal charges would likely require a private criminal complaint because it would probably be unlikely for any LEO present at time of passage to do anything. Then the DA would likely not pursue things either due to local ties. A petition for a special prosecutor would need to be filed to follow through with criminal action.

"We" would need a victim of said ordinance to have standing for any subsequent civil suits. Multiple victims to make it class action. Name not just the entity of the City Council, but also the individual that voted for the ordinance.
