Strife on Pittsburgh City Council, open carry rally effective in Pittsburgh.
Calls for more fact finding. Names removed.
Open carry rallies aren't effective.
"An as-yet-unscheduled “fact-finding” meeting on Pittsburgh’s gun control bills will be added to city council’s calendar, in addition to an already scheduled public hearing.
Councilwoman Darlene Harris called for the post-agenda meeting at Wednesday’s council meeting. Councilwoman Kail-Smith seconded the motion.
“I’m going to attempt to get neutral people,” Ms. Harris said at the council table.
“Neutral people? What do you mean neutral?” asked the Rev. Ricky Burgess, who as Finance Committee chair presides over Wednesday’s standing committee meetings.
“We want to get facts,” Ms. Kail-Smith said.
Ms. Harris and Ms. Kail-Smith pulled their names from sponsorship of the gun bills, which aim to ban assault-style weapons and certain gun accessories and ammunition within city limits as well as establish a process for courts to remove weapons from the possession of people who pose an “extreme risk” to themselves or others. The other seven council members' names remain on the bills."

Translation - you caught us trying to do something illegal...we'll have to go back to the drawing board.

First counter-protesters decided not to show because we would be armed (not a bad idea on their part) and now this...I have freedom wood.

Re: Strife on Pittsburgh City Council, open carry rally effective in Pittsburgh.
This has been one of my major thoughts on the subject that's been rolling around in my head.
" Mrs. Kail-Smith said, citing concerns she’s heard from constituents on whetheru minority communities would be disproportionately affected by enforcement of the bills."
For how "progressive" the city council wants to be seen, they're just creating a new way to get police involved in day to day life, are criminalizing non violent behavior, and are setting up a hell of a situation to be rife with selective enforcement.
You're also telling everyone in the city that you can't own the most common and affordable handguns, so you're further taking guns out of the hands of the economically disadvantaged. If these laws are passed, the LCP would be banned in city limits since a 12 round magazine exists for it, as would the HiPoint C9 - pretty much the two most affordable handguns out there. So now they're saying you can't own a gun if you only have about $200 to spend, they're pushing the floor of entry to the $400+ range for j-frames and similar compact revolvers.
Also, to use their terms, telling someone "you don't need this, I know better than you" is speaking from one hell of a position of privelege. Politicians that live within their little affluent, low crime enclaves in the city what is best for someone that lives in Homewood. Peduto sleeps easy at night because he knows he has armed men willing to do violence on his behalf if someone accosts him - your typical person doesn't, and I just don't think he and they realize how patronizing they are being.

Not hijacking thread, but you DELETED the words "last month" from the Post Gazette article. Your deletion of those two words makes it appear as though they pulled their names following the rally which is untrue.
Ms. Harris and Ms. Kail-Smith last month pulled their names from sponsorship of the gun bills, which aim to ban assault-style weapons and certain gun accessories and ammunition within city limits as well as establish a process for courts to remove weapons from the possession of people who pose an “extreme risk” to themselves or others. The other seven council members' names remain on the bills.
