    Default UPMC Shadyside hospital, Pittsburgh?

Any metal detectors or wanding thru MAIN entrance? I realize there may be at emergency entrance. Thanks.

Nope, only emergency. Not sure what their policy is for firearms and if it's posted.

Policy for all UPMC properties is No Weapons, it will be posted on signs at entrance doors. Concealed means concealed! ER's at the hospitals are typically the only entrances that have walk through metal detectors.

I have a very trusty source that must remain anonymous that stated:

UPMC has gun violence training. In the training an employee is to give a code for "active shooter" and call police. This includes if they see a gun. It implies that seeing a gun requires an active shooter report whether they intended that or not.

    So caution!

So if someone sees a gun on someone, swat will show up?

It very well could happen if a non-thinking employee follows instructions to the letter, they will use the code for active shooter internally and then report to 911 as active shooter situation. Then police SWAT likely will show up all decked out looking for a fight that doesn't exist.

UPMC may have intended it as a "better safe than sorry" plan especially since no legal person would be there in violation of their policy. Or they could just be short sighted.

I recall way back when, the cops briefed the PTA that if they needed to call 911 for help and wanted the fastest response - mention “gun” over anything else to get the desired attention.

From some of the tales of the Shadyside ER, I can understand their concerns.
