i personally called and spoke with capitol police last year.
they will check handguns. they have lockers. no measurements were provided to me but having been to courthouses i imagine they're like i've seen, little shoe cubbies like small PO boxes.
someone mentioned something like a 10" revolver fitting once if i recall.

Unless you are VERY early the lockers will be filled. Capitol police have a room for us to check guns that they staff for this event. Now I haven't been down there for a few years so don't have a shitfit that I'm giving bad info :/ I believe they are stored on shelves and there is no locker involved.

The Bulk Gun Check Station is on the Commonwealth Avenue side, north of the fountain. There are two officers in the room, one at the check desk and another ferrying the guns back to the storage bins. (Think mailbox cubbyholes like you might find in an old time office.) There are no doors or locks on the bins, but no one is allowed behind the desk except the officers. It might save time if you download the form and fill it out beforehand.
