Default Just Released: Protech DNA! (No more anonymous valuables)

The insurance companies are subsidizing these kits which are a $40 value but free to anyone who wants to sign up. Once you sign up, you get a code. This code is then applied via microdots made of nickel, and are not visible to the naked eye.

Thinking adding these to my guns. Each kit allows the application to 100 different items. Additional kits are 12.99 each.

Just released so I am not sure how many people know about this.

    Nope, nein, nyet, nada!

    LAW ENFORCEMENT

Law Enforcement is key component of the program. Over 4,000 agencies are currently utilizing the technology in a effort to reduce property theft in their communities and engage their residents in awareness.

Over 36,000 law enforcement agencies have access to the IARLE database: Searchable by PIN, property description, serial numbers, etc.
    No cost to law enforcement
All agencies are provided detection kits
Auto scrubs database when property is recovered and cataloged by property room50 – 75 new law enforcement agencies each month

Here's a good start as to why not.

Civil Assest Forfeiture by DEA tops $3.2+ billion from innocent people.

This is just 1 agency abusing things, with a program available down to local Podunk depths.
This bullshit database(backdoor national gun registery?) Would be a potential shopping list of valuable that no one else would have any reason to know you have.

Makes even more sense why they wanna give them out for free..

The serial number of your gun is its identifier. This would be redundant IMO. You can also engrave your firearm discretely somewhere it's not likely to be found if you're worried about someone grinding off the serial number.

I would also question the privacy aspect. Will the police be able to search the database for "AR-15" and come up with every person that listed their "evil black rifle" in the database that way?

I might use it on items that have value but no serial number, IF I was guaranteed that no hacker would be able to go "shopping" with the info. Although damn near everything of value is serialized these days.

Agree with some of the points made here. This likely is more useful for unserialized valuables such as EOTech.
