Plastic stock
My son asked me to clean his Ruger M 77 Mark two. Cleaning it was straightforward, but am unsure what to do about stock as I don't own any plastic stocks. Is there a recommended way to wipe them down, do you use water or something else. It has a few scratches in it, which I am not interested in getting them out, just want to make it look clean. Thanks Joe

Re: Plastic stock
Dawn soap?
Wet wipe?
It's plastic, I'm not sure what the concern is. It should be solvent proof, but you can avoid heavy solvents to be safe.

Re: Plastic stock
Soap water and a rag will work. Don't clean it with fire and it should be ok.

Re: Plastic stock
Myself, I would not use Armorall or anything that would be slippery. Don't see any point in making a stock slippery and increasing chances of missing a target or dropping the gun.
Simple green, rinsed off and dried sounds good.

Re: Plastic stock
Ok, I guess I'll toss in the old curmudgeon remark. Why are YOU cleaning HIS rifle. He got it dirty, he should be cleaning it. Please don't say he is a busy person, if he has time to shoot it, he has time to clean it. My father never cleaned any of the guns I shot, no matter who they belonged to, that was my responsibility. I didn't even clean the guns my daughters shot, they learned to do it themselves and they learned they were responsible for maintaining what they used.
As for cleaning the stock, Simple Green, 409, soap and water all work. Simple Green or 409 if there are tough stains on it.Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member
