    Welcome to the site. I know that you mentioned long guns but be aware that Philly has it's own rules on handguns (if you decide to carry one with a LCTF).

    Please make sure you transport your rifle correctly while traveling.
    If you are living in Philadelphia itself for school or whatever, then best to transport the rifle case in a generic duffel bag to avoid being targeted for theft.

    Why not in the passenger compartment? That is a FOPA requirement for *interstate* travel and is not a legal necessity for the scenario(s) described by the OP.

    Sometimes it is easier just to follow one set of rules and since it is Philly being conservative does not hurt.
