I use Super Lube. It’s a synthetic grease that never hardens. I put that $hit on everything. I think I saw some at Walmart. But recently topped up my supply at Amazon.

Don’t obsess over what grease, though. Your Garand will like whatever you use.

Just a FYI: Don't shoot just any 30.06 ammo out of your Garand.
Most modern 30.06 ammo is to hot for the M1. It can bend the OP rod.
Only use Military surplus or modern 30.06 labeled for M1 Garand.

What is the "Best" grease to use if I want to shoot these?

You don't need a special grease for the Garand. Any grease will do. It was designed at a time when their were no super slick wiz-bang greases (at $20 an ounce). If you want to be "correct" the original spec was for Lubriplate grease. It is still in production but hard to find. I shot my Garands for decades using auto store axle grease. Then I found a box of the little grease pots that went into the cleaning kit in the butt. Been using those lately but there is no difference.

Look up a diagram of points to apply the rifle grease and make sure you use grease (not oil)............. and don't be stingy.

I was reading about the gas plug. There are 4 out there that will let one shoot any ammo ? I plan on shooting the Military, but will any of these plugs prolong parts life or benefit the rifle in any way?

I reload all of my Garand ammo to the original military specs so I don't see any need for an adjustable plug. You are not going to wear out a properly greased receiver with "in Spec" ammo.

The adjustable plugs are used if you shoot heavy bullets with slower powders. These loads give higher gas port pressures an cycle the oprod faster. In extreme cases you can even bend the oprod. The problem I see is after adjusting the plug to the hotter ammo you probably can't shoot the standard ammo in it. Adjustable plugs are mostly used by long range match shooters who load 180+ grain bullets and push the load slightly to get higher velocities.

M1 Garand Grease Pots. Original WWII production with original white/cream colored "Lubriplate" grease. These are used and dirty but are FULL so "as issued" inside, just grungy on outsides.

Lubriplate grease was used during WWII, after the war the darker thick grease was substituted and the Pots were also marked with just "Grease, Rifle" on tops, which are more common.

Nice looking rifle Ray. Nice groups on the targets. What range where these pictures taken at?

I did a little reading on the "Lead Dipped" - lots of info out there.

It may be sometime until I get out to shoot it. Want to make sure I have everything from A to Z covered, including the proper ammo. Don't want any KABOOMs on this piece of history!
