I own quite a few Colts , both box-stock Gold Cup National Matches and customized Commanders and Gov't Models , but the most surprising 1911 has been my Para Expert Commander Lightweight. More accurate than many guns I've shot costing 3-4x what I paid and dead reliable. Not pretty , but I bought it for carry and if it gets a scratch or two , mehhh! Cost at Tanner's was $450 and I got a $100 rebate from Remington , which bought a set of Trijicon Nite Sites.

I've been playing with 1911's for over 40yrs. There really is not answer. $1500-2000 guns can has endless problems and $400-500 guns can be flawless. Pay yer money and take yer chances.

BTW , a friend recently bought a Wilson Combat , not sure the exact model , but I was seriously impressed and that doesn't happen often.

Worth as much as the LNIB '65 Colt GCNM I have for sale? Some more range time will tell.

Colt. The roll marks are not graffiti . The fit and finish are the standard. Made from proper materials.

The options in that price range are limitless. Try everyone you can get your hands on. Big question is what are you going to use it for? Do you want a compact. commander or full size? Is this a EDC? IDPA? Both? Love the 1911 platform. I personally have Sigs and Kimbers. Both are accurate, reliable and shoot everything I feed them. Liked my Colts too. No problems with any of them.

Make sure you check out Springfield's Range Officer. After modifying Colts for 35 years, I as very pleasantly surprised. Good luck in your search.

I have a few good 1911 and the DW Valor is my favorite and most used.
Best bang for the buck in my mind.

My only experience with a 1911 is my Ruger SR1911 .45 auto. Everything about it works for me, the feel, weight, look, etc.

Again, it's the only 1911 I own or have shot, I like it.

To add.. I have several Sig X0's that are great. Very accurate. One of them had to be returned to Sig 3 or 4 times for FTF / FTE issues. Now it's as good as my other ones. Not sure about the new Sig's, but the XO's that I have (One's with the man hole cover) has the casper frames.
