Don't fall for the gimmick ammo.

Odd are if it is handgun ammo and in a 20rd or 25rd box - it is gimmick ammo.

For the most part, I think the ammo wars are right up there with the caliber wars. A hollow point made by a reputable, well known company is going to perform well enough for any self-defense situation. I won't say that you won't get an extra 5/100th inch of expansion but I will say it won't matter. As long as the velocity is sufficient for the bullet design, you'll usually get a mushroom. The primary goal is to dump all of the energy in the body. A ball round will frequently pass through, not delivering the maximum energy.

Remember, you need to fire a fair amount of your carry ammo to establish reliability. That gets expensive when it's super special, $2 a round killer ammo. And, you should be using it up every couple of years because sweat, corrosion, jarring from carrying it will decrease reliability.

Get a couple of boxes of law enforcement ammo and you should have no worries.

Yeah yeah yeah I get it. But the beautiful flowers those Barnes bullets make are so pretty. I can see it now.... M.E. says "wow what great expansion! That shooter really went top shelf with those". By the way, Midway has them for $1 a round so not outrageous.

If I'm ever attacked by a block of Jello , I can be confident in knowing those all-copper bullets will mushroom beautifully!

I’m a fan of the Barnes solid copper as a hunting projectile.I’ve used Barnes solid copper sabots ,spitfire TMZ 290 grain in my muzzleloader on deer and the results are devastating. That being said I’m not carrying a .50 muzzleloader . I stick with Hornady XTPs in most of my CCWs .40 and 9mm.

Barnes bullets are good to go. The only problem is the price.

I don't even know what brand hollow points I use in my gun. A friend of mine gave me a box for Christmas a few years ago. Before that I used 115 gr FMJ reloads. I really don't think it matters at all.

Huh? What? You don't check to see if they work? FMJ? You're shitting us right? Yeah I fell for it.
