Went out for a few hours yesterday. Saw a couple doe and a fisher.

Maybe I will get out again if it ever stops raining. Looks like shit through Tuesday.

Gonna hit it tomorrow with my crossbow. Did a mini-scout today at SGL280.

    Summary:

Seemed to be pretty empty, a lot of entry points, good transitional areas, somewhat flat. Hoping to at least see something.

Oh, and I went to take a leak on a pull off, turned the ole truck around and got stuck. Well, then started to slide down the hill across a field. Stopped a foot short of the 10 ft embankment by the road, would have been ugly for sure as I would have wrecked my truck. Two trucks came by about 5 minutes later, put it in reverse and tried to help me out. One of the guys got stuck worse than me. The other guy went back to his farm, got his 2500 duramax and chains. Hauled us both out. Thank God for fellow hunters and good will!! Those guys saved my bacon as I don't know how a flatbed or anything could have gotten to me and winched me out. I was really close to putting my truck over that embankment. Thank God I am here typing my story now.

Lesson learned, it's mushy out there, stick on the gravel!!!

Tomorrow is new years eve, and it looks like the rain will hold off until lunch time in 4D.

I hit it yesterday. Lots of pheasant and smokepole guys out. I was there archery. Empty handed. I’ll try again tomorrow before the rain.

I haven't been out since the regular season. I got a new bow that I have mostly set up, except I can't get the peep to align quite where I want. Debating whether or not I should head out with the shotgun tomorrow (Allegheny county), or if I should keep trying to get this bow to work today, and get acquainted with it tomorrow (if I can even get it working right).

My freezer is quite full (apartment living = tiny freezer), but I have a feeling I'll empty the venison in there faster than I think. On the other hand, I know that if I take the shotgun out, the buck I've been hoping for will show up.

Well, nothing has showed up for me. I'm about fed up! Where are the deer, any deer?

I was out with the flintlock on Saturday, mostly moving through the woods in the AM and sat for a couple of hours in the late afternoon. Saw a flock of turkeys but no deer. Tons of sign but I've no idea where the deer are. My Dad put his trail camera out, had 2 bucks on it and several does, all after 8PM.

Got a decent sized doe on Saturday morning about 10 inspite of the wind, perfect broadside shot at 30 yds ,hit just a touch back because out of habit I set the rear trigger and touched the front just a hair quick due to cold fingers . 50 cal round ball dixie southern rifle 65gr of 3F . Went the normal 50 yds and down had to finish her off with the knife though.

All the deer movement that I've seen this flintlock season has been on my trail camera at night. A freshly cut corn field on an adjacent property is killing me. I have managed to trap 5 beaver though. Probably won't get back out till Saturday. Going to hit two public lands then try the private land again near dark.

Everything I've seen has been at night, too.

I was on a SGL yesterday, saw tracks, paths, and laydown areas but no deer.

Walked out of the woods about 5:15, packed up, and right when I turned the car on one walked across the road about 25yds away - at 5:30.

    Oh well.
