If everyone was given a license to carry on their 21st birthday the crime rate for LTCF holders would be the same as the general population. Having the license does not turn you into a good guy, rather you have to be a good guy to get a license.

Or a bad guy with a clean record.

Why is it that people believe a criminal is going to apply for a legal permit to carry a firearm? If said person is a criminal, he's likely not permitted to own a firearm to begin with.

So.....let's put the law abiding citizen thru more nonsense and spend more public funds for what?

Actually , there have been a few incidents committed by folks with LTCF. Some after many years with no problems. People just snap sometimes.

But we do see a slippery slope where even unsubstantiated claims of erratic or dangerous past or current behavior are taken seriously.

Gun owners in general are the most law abiding. 110 million gun owners and only what, a hundred or so crimes by legal gun owners per year? There's a study done in Texas that showed concealed carriers had about a. 0.00000001% conviction rate... Also, they were better overall citizens regarding being law abiding in every respect.
